THE FUTURE OF LGBTQI+IN GHANA

THE FUTURE OF LGBTQI+IN GHANA

Let’s join the ongoing debate on the LGBTQI+ bill in Ghana. Some may see the acceptance of lgbtqi+ in the Ghanaian society as a “curse” to  country, whilst others see it to be “normal” or by choice. What’s your take on this? Would you also help fight against lgbtqi+ or stand with it.

I run into a video on Tiktok, where a member of the lgbtqi+ was being interviewed on why he chose to be gay and his response caught my attention. According to him, he was in search of a job when a man told him he would help him to get a job. The next day, he went to see the man in his home thinking he would finally get a job to do. But after a week of going to and fro the man’s house he still didn’t get a job.

One day, at the man’s house, the man asked him to rub an ointment on his back. Next thing he knew they had anal sex. Which he says he bled. After a few days he was better and the man told him he would provide for his needs provided he becomes his partner. He then said, he has since enjoyed sexual intimacy with a guy.

His main point was that most people in the lgbtqi+ are people who needed a means of survival and support for their livelihood. Do you think it’s just an excuse from these people to hide from the criticisms from Ghanaians who very much oppose the act?

For now, just a few members of the LGBTQI+ have come out to take their stand or to accept that they are members in public. This is because, the majority of Ghanaians who oppose the act will shun or publicly disgrace these people in public. The best solution is for parents and guardians to advice and guide their children on all sexual matters and educate them on whether they approve of their choices according to their sexuality. In this way, we know that any member of the lgbtqi+ who comes out to public is not criticized because the society encouraged them.

Let’s educate ourselves and think twice before making choices according to our sexuality before we regret. Being part of LGBTQI+ is a choice and not by chance.
